Neighborhood Fun Facts
Originally farmland known as Dominie’s Hoek (Dominie’s Point) in the 1600s, the land was later bought by British sea captain George Hunter, which is why the area became known as Hunter’s Point by the 1820s.
The transition from rural farmland began in the 1860s when the Long Island Rail Road built a terminal in the neighborhood as the primary connection to Manhattan, as the neighborhood was not connected to Manhattan by ferry yet.
