NYC Ferry Launches New Student Discount Program

We are excited to announce the launch of the NYC Ferry Student Discount Program, bringing affordable, waterfront commuting to New York City high school students. Starting September 1, 2024, high schoolers can purchase and use discounted ferry tickets on weekdays, providing a budget-friendly and scenic way to travel to and from school.

Who is Eligible?

The Student Discount Program is available to New York City public, private or charter high schools students in grades 9 through 12, or students enrolled without an assigned grade but are 13 years or older.

How to Enroll and Purchase Tickets

Guardians of any New York City private, public, or charter school high school student must first log into or create a New York City Student Account (NYCSA). For information on how to do that, see here. Starting August 1, 2024, guardians can click a button within the NYCSA portal to request a NYC Ferry student discount code that will be assigned to the eligible student.

There are two ways to purchase student discount tickets:

1. NYC Ferry App

To purchase tickets via the NYC Ferry App:

  1. Download the NYC Ferry App on the guardian’s or student’s mobile phone.
  2. Log into the NYC Ferry account or create a new one.
  3. Select the “Promo Code” option from the menu.
  4. Enter the unique discount code from the NYCSA account.

Once a valid discount code is entered, your account will be linked to the Student Discount Program, and you will have the option to purchase student discount tickets  in the ‘Buy Tickets’ tab beginning September 1, 2024.

2. Paper Tickets at Wall St./Pier 11 landing

To purchase student discount paper tickets, first fill out a Student Discount Paper Ticket Application form, available on the NYC Ferry website or at the Wall St/Pier 11 ticketing window. Provide the student’s name, email you’d like to be associated with the NYC Ferry discount, phone number, and discount code. Please allow up to 30 days for NYC Ferry to process this request. Once processed, you will receive a confirmation email with a letter verifying eligibility.

Show the confirmation letter at the Wall St./Pier 11 ticketing window (open daily from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM) to purchase paper tickets.

Applications for paper student discount tickets will be accepted starting August 1, 2024; however, students and/or guardians will not be able to purchase or use student discount paper tickets until September 1, 2024.

Important Rules for Student Tickets

  • Student Tickets are valid on weekdays only.
  • Only one Student Discount Ticket can be used at a time; multiple activations within 30 minutes are not permitted.
  • There is no limit on the number of Student Tickets that can be purchased.
  • Discount codes and tickets are non-transferable and must be used by the eligible student only.
  • Discount codes can only be applied once within one NYC Ferry account and cannot be applied within the App for student discount app tickets and on the paper ticket application formfor paper discount tickets.
  • Discount codes will be active from September 1, 2024, through August 30, 2025. All discount codes will be deactivated on August 31, 2025.
  • Students must reenroll in the program each year.
