Celebrate Earth Day 2022 with NYC Ferry

Earth Day is a yearly celebration to appreciate the Earth and to raise awareness of our environmental challenges. At NYC Ferry our focus is on sustainability, education, and waterfront access in the neighborhoods we serve. New York City offers a multitude of opportunities to show your appreciation for the Earth this April and we’ve compiled a list of events easily accessible via the ferry.

Spring Litter Cleanup

Winter always leaves our streets and sidewalks a little dirtier than usual, which is why we’re kicking off our 2022 programming by picking up litter and trash on the 31st Ave Open Street. Bags, gloves, and brooms will be provided, just bring yourself! It’s a great way to beautify the block, meet your neighbors, and spend time outdoors as the weather begins to warm up again.

Volunteer Cleanup – Beautify Astoria Park

NYC Earth Day 2022 Festival in Union Square

Earth Day 2022 is here! Show up for the environment this spring, learn what you can do in your own life, and check out our amazing line-up of virtual speakers and partners that in recent years have included Bill Nye, Al Gore, Elizabeth Warren, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Broadway performers from Hamilton and Jagged Little Pill, experts, and activists. The event includes dozens of environmental organizations and climate campaigns like March for Science and Fridays for Future, kids’ activities, and live speeches and performances.

Family Workshops: Earth Day Celebration

In celebration of Earthday, we take inspiration from the practice of Mottainai in Japan which encourages all to be thoughtful about waste. Create and share a zero waste ochiba art design and enjoy a dynamic live drumming performance by Taiko Masala.

Spring Nature Walks with Gabriel Willow

Welcome spring with us and take a nature tour of the park that will focus on the restored tidal marsh ecosystem, with some ecological history of NYC weaved in. Learn about the great potential these habitats have both as an oasis for migrating birds and also how they serve as buffers from storms and sea level rise, and increase the resiliency of our waterfront and neighborhoods.
