Socrates Sculpture Park

On January 9th, the NYC Ferry team met with the visionaries leading the organization behind Astoria’s funky waterfront sculpture park. A stone throw from our future Astoria ferry stop at Hallets Point, the Socrates Sculpture Park hosts over 200,000 visitors per year and is a neighborhood favorite as it sports a great waterfront view and intriguing art installations. With installations such as the Monument to Christopher Walken (aka. a Christopher Walken Mushroom Forest) and More Light (pictured above), the park functions as a hub for creative programming, art installations, and public gatherings for locals and visitors alike. Socrates is open 365 days a year from 10am to sunset, and explore the emerging artist exhibitions currently in the park here.

Downtown Cultural Group

On January 9th, the NYC Ferry team also attended a meeting for the Downtown Cultural Group. The group consists of museums and cultural organizations in Lower Manhattan, working together to allow locals and visitors to explore and discover the cultural and historical footprints of the oldest section of New York City, once known as New Amsterdam. For more information about the partnering museums, pricing and how to use the exciting pass, visit their website to discover the Downtown Culture Pass!
At the meeting, the group was focused on planning their upcoming Night of the Museum event, which will include free entrance to 15 Lower Manhattan attractions – so stay tuned for more information on this exciting event!
