2016 has been an exciting year for the tourism industry in New York City, with 15,000 new jobs being added to the market and the 60 million visitors milestone being reached (NYC&Co). At the Lower Manhattan Marketing Association’s (LOMA,) final town hall of 2016 on December 16th, the President and CEO of NYC & Company, Fred Dixon, shared the highlights of international and domestic travel to New York City and its five boroughs.

Once appointed to his current position by Mayor Bill de Blasio, Mr. Dixon shared this winter’s exciting programs available for locals and visitors alike, in order to create amazing experiences throughout the colder months through iconic seasonal highlights. The visible trend having emerged in 2016 and continuing into 2017, has clearly been the growth of the tourism sector in Lower Manhattan with new openings such as Westfield Mall, iPic Theaters, Eataly Downtown and a handful of notable hotels.
“More tourism means we have more people investing in New York City and are able to create more sustainable jobs for more people. New York is a culturally rich and diverse city, with so much to offer those who visit. I look forward to continue promoting this beautiful city and welcoming all those who visit in the future” said Mayor Bill de Blasio to NYC&Company.
Held at the Museum of the American Indian, located within the historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, was a great way to show the combination of new and iconic attractions working together in creating an intriguing and exciting neighborhood for both New Yorkers and visitors, wishing to work, live and play in the big apple.
