Happy Winter Weekend! After the shifting temperatures this past week, the weather is promised to stay in the sub-30s over the weekend. Did someone say sledding? Hot chocolates? Fireplaces? Yep, we did. Whether you are enjoying this pre-Valentine’s weekend solo or with a loved one, we have tons of fun things for you to explore!
Enjoy the Snow!
A lot of the snow has melted on the city streets, but there is still snow to be found and enjoyed in the parks. One option is to hit the parks with some serious hills to sled, where we recommend Central Park’s Pilgrim Hill (near E 72nd Street) or Cedar Hill (E 78th Street). There are also great sledding opportunities in East River Park and Prospect Park, closer to Long Meadow.

Sip a Warm Beverage
Whether you are looking for something sweet, boozy or maybe both, there are tons of amazing places across the city catering warm drinks for the cold winter days. While most dive bars will mix up a hot toddy for you in no time, maybe this weekend it’s time for something new? From a Vietnamese Coffee with brandy and White Seal coffee with a sweet Spanish wine to Bibble and Sip’s adorable hot beverages, New York’s baristas and bartenders are bound to warm you up this weekend. The latter is also known for it’s amazing themed cookies, perfect for any kids ready for a sugary treat!
Discover a New Kind of Art
Saturday, Feb 11th
3pm – 7pm
Naumburg Bandshell
Central Park
Central Park’s annual Ice Festival is back with incredibly talented artists from the Astoria-based Okamoto Studio, who will take on the task of transforming 6,000 pounds of ice into breathtaking statues in the park. After the ice sculpting is finished, a free silent disco will emerge (with live DJs) so that you can warm up with 80s, 90s and top 40 hits. Who said it’s too cold to have fun? Get out there and dance the cold away!
Let your Taste Buds Travel!
Long Island City
31-00 47th Ave, The Falchi Building
9am-5pm
Culinary travel is a thing, but who said we couldn’t send our taste buds on a trip while staying in our own city? This weekend, head to the 2,000 square foot food pop-up in Long Island City to indulge in some Thai specialties, Caribbean dishes, Peruvian baked goods, Texas-style pastries, and more! The Falchi Building also hosts artisanal cheese vendors and tons of local companies serving up their sweet delights. While you can’t take our ferry to Long Island City just yet, we are excited to travel here next year by water! More information and tickets here.
Fall in Love with Chocolate and Whiskey
Red Hook
218 Conover Street
Valentine’s in coming up, and chocolate season is here! This means that it is prime time to head over to Cacao Prieto and Widow Jane for some sweet bites and cool whiskey sips. While enjoying these amazing flavors, you will learn how cacao from the Dominican Republic becomes the chocolate bar you eat in Brooklyn, and the whiskey’s journey from grain to cocktail. While we will take the train this time around, we can’t wait to take our South Ferry bound ferry to visit these two come summer! More information about hours, tastings and prices here.
Warm up by a Fireplace
Thrillist released a list of their favorite 60 establishments with fireplaces earlier this winter, and we are determined to at least check some of them off our lists as we warm up between city-wide adventures.
Chocolate & Puppies
Strand Books
Union Square
Feb 14th, 7pm-9pm
OK, so we all know true love is a combination of puppies and chocolate, right? Well, this upcoming week you can actually enjoy this magical combination right here in NYC. While this is not a weekend event, the ASPCA’s puppies and Bushwick-based Fine & Raw’s chocolate combination is too good to leave out. Head over to Pulsd to RSVP for $15 to cuddle up with (and potentially adopt?) these pups and enjoy sweet chocolate.
