After a stormy week, we are finally promised some well-deserved sun rays and low 40s in New York City! With great milestone of our first landing breaking ground in the Rockaways being reached this week and the upcoming sunshine, the NYC Ferry team is ready to enter the weekend to explore the city!
Celebrate Chinese New Year
Explore a new culture with the variety of Lunar New Year celebrations across the city. Whether you are looking to see a parade, taste some new foods, or have a good excuse to “travel” while staying right here in your own city, this is your chance! Attend the Dragon Parade, learn martial arts and introduce your tastebuds to new flavors at the Firecracker Ceremony and Chinese New Year Temple Bazaar in Chinatown or Flushing, or experience a Lunar New Year party at the Bowery Hotel tonight!
Winter Carnival
Carnival is celebrated differently around the globe with parades, costumes, food and drinks. So bundle up and head outside to experience snowball fights, food tastings and performances at Bank of America’s Winter Village in Bryant Park, as they host a carnival festival beginning January 27th and running through February 4th!
Winter Jam at Central Park
Not tired of the colder weather, and wishing to enjoy the wintertime? Central Park’s weekend programming features an epic all-ages snow day, so head to the Winter Jam, where there will be sledding, arctic golf, a winter market, snowshoeing, skiing and snowboarding for beginners. Equipment will be provided free, with free entrance for the event running between 11am and 3pm this Saturday, January 28th. With these activities you are bound to try something new!
Taste the King’s Cake
Throughout the month of January, Benoit has been serving a traditional French dessert galette des rois, also known as a “kings cake.” The delicious dessert is filled with a mixture called frangipane, a cream made from sweet almonds, butter, eggs and sugar.
