The fall colors have finally reached New York City, but so has also the much colder weather. While this makes exploring the city a chillier experience, we have spent the last week exploring new indoor activities – suitable for any season, but especially for those hot-toddy-worthy November days!
iPic Screening
November 2nd
South Street Seaport, Manhattan
While Brooklyn has been known for its in-theater dining and reclining twin seats at movie theaters such as Syndicated and Nitehawk Cinema, it was finally time for iPic Theaters to launch their South Street Seaport location – which is so much more than “simply a theater.”
This event by the Downtown-Lower Manhattan Association and the Downtown Alliance, allowed for the NYC Ferry team to check out the newly opened Tuck Room and experience the iPic Fulton Market movie theater just steps from Pier 11/Wall Street, featuring exceptional cocktails by Master Mixologist Adam Seger and delicious bites from appetizers to dessert by James Beard award winner Chef Sherry Yard.
From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by the theater’s concierge team, who can assist you with anything from tickets to food and seat options (there is two kinds of seats: reclining and twin). The decor is modern and sleek, think: New York street art meets sleek boutique hotel art. On the second floor, you are greeted by a large concessions area that transitions into a full-service to-go bar, serving reasonably priced alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, but also your movie theater staples such as popcorn and candy.
Finally, there is a bar on the third floor, with an intimate vibe and movie inspired wall paintings, suitable for any date or pre-movie dinner. With the option of ordering food and drinks at the bar and bringing them with you once your movie is about to start, or ordering when you make it to the theater, it leaves you with the freedom of making a special night out to treat yourself or someone you love.
A fun indoor experience, highly recommended experience in an area with a lot to explore and a fun way to experience a variety of newly released films!
Price: $16-18 for tickets, and for more information see iPic Theater.

Look North Gallery
November 9th
Redhook, Brooklyn
With a background in the maritime industry, allowing for him to frequent Nova Scotia and Alaska, Jim Clark, fell in love with Inuit art forms and began his own collection. Years later, Clark decided it was time to open a gallery to share the uniquely modern designs of the Inuit art forms, and this was the beginning of Look North Gallery.
With dozens of intriguing pieces made from large pieces of stone, sometimes combined with cloth and wood, the collection is a beautiful dive into Inuit art history and purpose. Tucked away on the fourth floor of the Fairway building once used to store cotton and coffee, the Redhook gallery is a stunning architectural find as well as a place to dive deep into Inuit art and background of each piece hand-picked by Jim Clark himself.
Not only are the art pieces themselves interesting, but a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of Look North’s bear sculptures are donated to The Arctic Exploration Fund, and Clark is very knowledgeable on how one can support the local Inuit communities by purchasing art from the right places. The most exciting part? The gallery is a short walk from our Redhook piers launching summer 2017, so check out what your ferry ride to Redhook will be like! To visit, please visit Jim Clark’s website.
