What’s Happening This Weekend, New York?

Fall is here and so are the hundreds of seasonal events happening from uptown and midtown to Brooklyn. So depending on your neighborhood, you are bound to discover the excitement and activities happening around you this weekend. Although our ferries and boat landings are underway and won’t open until 2017, the locations listed below are located just a short trek to our future boat landings across New York City which makes attending events more fun and that much easier!

Open House New York

The first event happening across the five boroughs this weekend is the ‘Open House New York’ event. For the last 12 years, Open House New York launched in New York City as a movement to engage the public on architecture, urban living and public space. The idea began in London, England in 1992 and shortly became a worldwide movement. Today the event draws more than 80,000 visitors, 1,200 volunteers and 275+ architectural sites across New York’s five boroughs. The event features architectural and design firms who open their studios for a Saturday afternoon public tour and presentation. Presentations and discussions include planning, preservation and infrastructure about food, manufacturing and technology. The 2-day event begins Saturday, October 15th and will feature New York’s most famous buildings giving the public a chance to explore and meet the architects behind their masterpieces. Many of the sites are open to the public, however some do require advance reservations. Some of the buildings include the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the United Palace, Brooklyn Historical Society and most recent to the building line ups include Brooklyn Woodworks – Williamsburg newest food incubator. Fantasticks

The world’s longest running musical, ‘The Fantasticks’ is opening its doors to the next generation of theatergoers this weekend offering behind-the-scenes tours with the cast and production team! With over 50 years of performing in Manhattan, this popular musical invites audiences to use their imagination and discover a story about a boy, a girl, two fathers and a wall. The event takes place at the Jerry Orbach Theatre, Snapple Theater Center. The behind the scenes tour is free with a purchase of a ticket. Broadway Up Close: Act 1

If you love Broadway and Theater you will love this event! Broadway is taking guests up close by offering tours across the Theater District. Step back in time to discover where history was made, hear the theater ghost stories and discover the famous theater stomping grounds including 42nd Street and the famous Nederlander Theater where the tour will start. NYC Wine and Food Festival

Call up your bff’s and join Food Network Chef, Rachael Ray as she hosts the annual NYC Wine & Food Festival’s Burger Bash on October 14th. What started as a evening event has turned into three full days (Oct 14 – Oct 16) welcoming more than 50,000+ foodies, dozens of celebrities and celebrity chefs including Mario Batali, Anne Burrell, Giada De Laurentiis, Guy Fieri and Bobby Flay and many more. The three day event will include late night parties, culinary classes, private dinners and wine tastings. Get a bite out of this international culinary where international chefs will judge a Nordic Breakfast in Koreatown. The event’s main location will be at Pier 92 and Pier 94 however the city will showcase more than 40 venues to showcase their culinary offerings and restaurants. Honk NYC

Dance like nobody’s watching, but in this case they will be watching and dancing right there with you! The annual international street band festival ‘Honk NYC’ is happening from October 11th to October 15th across the city with five days of live musical performances popping up at schools, parks, clubs, gardens, galleries and other public spaces. The event began on Tuesday with a funk and gypsy performance by Slavic Soul Party at Barbes in Park Slope, Brooklyn. This weekend take your city stroll with a little jump in your step.  Free and ticketed performances will continue this weekend in Staten Island, Harlem and many other locations. http://honknyc.com/

 

Harvest Fest and Pumpkin Patch

Everyone loves a great pumpkin patch especially when it’s held at the Queens Botanical Gardens. On Sunday, October 16th from 11am – 5pm, this family fair will feature a Kids Zone, petting zoo, arts & crafts and beekeeping and bulb planting demonstrations by botanists. Beer Festival

Sip and savour the flavors of delicious beers from across Queens, New York.
