Celebrate City of Water Day with NYC Ferry

THE WATERFRONT ALLIANCE AND THE NEW YORK-NEW JERSEY HARBOR & ESTUARY PROGRAM (HEP) WILL CELEBRATE THE 15TH ANNUAL CITY OF WATER DAY ON SATURDAY, JULY 16TH, 2022.

City of Water Day seeks to raise awareness of the region’s vulnerability to the impacts of climate change and sea level rise. Today, more than one million people in our region face direct risks from coastal flooding.

NYC Ferry is proud to be the official transportation sponsor of City of Water Day as we are committed to supporting New York’s waterways and community organizations throughout the five boroughs. Jamaica Bay Festival: Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy
Celebrate those who share a vision to champion the spirit of the Jamaica Bay Community, the unparalleled opportunities, and the natural beauty of this urban tidal estuary. Participants can enjoy free kayaking, fishing, surfing, hiking, bird watching, art, nature, and more. Climate Change & The Seas: National Lighthouse Museum
Join the national lighthouse museum on City of Water Day as they offer engaging exhibits on pollution and the effects of climate change on the ocean environment. Find out more about their event here: lighthousemuseum.org/events

Floating Garden Workshop: Reti Center
Join the Reti center to help build and launch a floating garden from their barge at GBX~Gowanus Bay Terminal. The garden incorporates marsh grasses, mussels, oysters and kelp, and its built entirely of salvaged and sustainable materials. All skill levels and ages welcome. For more info: reticenter.org

Music on the Half Shell: Billion Oyster Project
Exciting porch side interactive musical piece will take place at the bop exhibit house on governors island. Through classical, pop, and folk music, five musicians will explore and enjoy the role that waterways play in our lives and imaginations — with several songs saluting the oyster. There will also be tabling activities and oyster tanks on display. For more information, visit billionoysterproject.org

Public Paddle: Newtown Creek Alliance
A cleanup, paddling, and immersive arts event hosted by Newtown Creek Alliance (NCA) and the North Brooklyn Community Boathouse (NBCB), featuring artist Marie Lorenz. For more cleanups and events along Newtown Creek visit: newtowncreekalliance.org/events

Art at The Blue Line
An exhibit of climate art produced by Waterfront Alliance in partnership with The Howard Hughes corporation and the South Street Seaport Museum.
